It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Unfortunately, that’s not always the case for your smile. There are many things that can damage the teeth and gums. However, if you’re careful, you can maintain a top-notch holiday smile. This is by protecting it. To help you, our dentist, Dr. Stan Scalf, has some tips.
First, keep up on oral hygiene. Your toothbrush, floss, rinse, and dental team will all help you protect your holiday smile. So, make sure to brush your teeth twice a day (with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste), floss your smile daily, rinse your mouth daily (with antibacterial mouthwash), and visit your dentist regularly (every six months).
Second, wear a mouthguard. This is essential if you like to stay active during the holidays, especially if you play football or basketball or go sledding or ice skating. These activities have the potential to cause oral injury. But, if you wear a mouthguard, your smile can be protected.
Third, avoid tooth-harming foods. This is important because there are many dangerous holiday foods and drinks that can alter your oral health, like sugary and acidic products. This is because sugar and acid promote dental issues, like cavities and sensitivity. You can avoid these problems by avoiding these products altogether.
